How to Record Your Desktop Using VLC Media Player

SOT is sure, all of you know VLC – a multimedia player application which is light and small, but offers so many advantages. Not to mention its powerful ability to play various media file extension! This time SOT found that VLC is able to record your desktop into a video file!

What are the advantages of doing this? If you’re an IT practicioner, it’s surely useful because you’ll be able to create tutorial about the usage of certain application to strengthen your review to the application. And if you’re ordinary teenager with technology device hobby, at least you can exhibit your desktop to your friend… I bet it’s a prestige!

Okay, let’s try the tips to record your desktop using VLC. Previously, SOT needs to say: if you’re rare doing this kind of audio-visual experiment, at least you should follow the value as I put into the VLC application (pay attention to red circle I’ve made in the images)

Recording Desktop using VLC

Open VLC, click on Media > Convert/Save.

Click on “Capture Device” Tab. Change Capture Mode into “Desktop”. Change “Desired frame rate to capture” value into maximum (99). Click on “Convert/Save”.

Prepare file name for your desktop record result, and don’t forget, add “.mp4” extension (I choose this because it’s easier to be played everywhere, including smartphone device). In profile setting, change audio statement into “Audio – AAC (MP4)” then click on Edit Selected profile on the right side.

Set your profile as the image above, then click on “save”.

Your VLC is ready to record desktop. You’d just have to click on start to get started.

Anytime you want to stop recording, you’ll just have to click on stop button on your VLC. The desktop recording can be played as common media files.
