Tips to Install Offline WordPress Blog

Do you have your own WordPress blog, your own hosting with many visitors? Do you want to edit your blog appearance to look cool? If you edit it online, it would be dangerous and influence the visitors. It would be better for you to modify blog appearance offline.

In addition of reducing internet cost, you can modify the display easier and faster. Since in modifying blog appearance, you will often edit code, save code, refresh pages, etc which surely need a long time if you do it online. To do that, you can install WordPress in your local computer server. For you who curious about it, SOT will explain the steps.

The first time you should do is by downloading WordPress and local server software, which is Xampp, here is the download link.

After downloading both, you can continue by installing Xampp in computer. Click twice on Xampp installer, then there would be window for Window for installation process. Do installation as usual.

Note: If you use Windows Vista, don’t install it in Drive C, because Xampp won’t run well. Just install it in Drive D or whatever drive you like to.

If Xampp is already installed in your computer, click Xampp icon on your desktop twice. After Xampp panel is opened, click on running button on the right side of apache and mysql text.

Open browser, for example Firefox, Opera, Chrome etc. On URL bar, type “http://localhost“, then you will enter into cpanel from Xampp. Click on left side menu which Tools and inside it there’s phpMyAdmin to create database which should be your blog database. You can give a database name as you like, for example db_blog then click on create button.

Local server and your blog database is finished created, now it’s time for us to install WordPress in your Computer. You should extract WordPress file in WordPress folder. Get in your previous Xampp installation folder, for example in C:\xampp\htdocs. Make a new folder in htdocs folder, for example: SpyOnTech. Paste all worpress file we have copied in SpyOnTech folder in htdocs folder.

Okay, now installation started. Open a new browser and fill in localhost/SpyOnTech, there will be a WordPress display, select create a configuration file. After that, there would be a new page and click on lets go.

There would be form as:

Database name : fill in database we’ve made, for example db_blog
Username : fill in “root” text (without quotation marks)
Password : let it empty
Database host : fill in with “localhost” text
Prefix Table: no need to change
Click on submit button

There would be another page and click on “run the install” button
Then there would be another page. Fill in the form as:
Blog title : fill in with your blog title. For example, “yourblog”
Your email : fill in with your Email address
Click on install wordpress

After that, there would be success page, in the page there would be your temporary username and password. Copy or note well that temporary password, since if it is lost you have to re-install from the beginning. I suggest you to copy the password, then click on login button. After that, there will be login page, fill in your username and paste the temporary password in the password form. Then click on Login.

Congratulations! WordPress has installed locally in your computer. Now you can start to modify your blog appearance first.

To view your blog, it is in localhost/SpyOnTech/
To get into dashboard panel, it is in localhost/SpyOnTech/wp-admin

You can modify the display faster and saver before uploading your WordPress into web hosting you rented. One important note, each time the computer turned on, we should activate apache and mysql well, by clicking on Start button on the right side of Apache and mysql in Xampp control panel.
