7. Ubuntu One synchronization

Have you found out about Ubuntu One ? SOT often discussed it here. Ubuntu One is a cloud storage from Canonical which has became default Cloud storage of ubuntu. You can enjoy 5GB storage for free. To use it, feel free to login to your Ubuntu One account via icon on Launcher. If you haven’t had the account, you can register here.

 

8. Install Media Player

for media player, it’s good to use application you love. But SOT stayed using VC media player to play video. You can install VLC Media Player easily from software center.

For music player, SOT always use Audacious which has the same display as Winamp. This Audacious can also be installed from software center.

9. Install Internet application

There are so many internet application you can install as you need. But basic applications which SOT used to install are Thunderbird (email client), Pidgin (instant messenger), Skype (instant messenger), and Chromium (Browser). All of them can be installed easily via software center.

 

10. Install Aplikasi Tweak Dasar

There were some tweak application you can install in Ubuntu. SOT’s favorite is Ubuntu Tweak which you can install by typing this commands in terminal:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tualatrix/ppa
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-tweak

Unfortunately, Ubuntu Tweak developer had decided not to continue this software development. Hiks.

The solution: you can use MyUnity, however, recently MyUnity is still unavailable in Ubuntu 12.10.

There’s another tweak advanced application you can install, which is CompizConfig Setting Manager which you can install via software center.

11. Install other “important” applications

Surely these ‘important’ applications are relative for each user. But here SOT would give some important applications list which almost all needed by SOT, even in Ubuntu:

7Zip

7Zip is so important to do archive and file extract. Don’t forget when installing from Software Center, you should tick on Non-Free Rar Module .

Gimp

this is an image editor application for Photoshop. You can install it via Software Center.

Cheese

This is an application to take photo or video from webcam. You can install it via Software Center.

VirtualBox

this virtual Software is so important for SOT. Often SOT use it to install various OS and various software to be reviewed here. VirtualBox can be installed via software center.

Shutter

If you searched for cool screenshot taker for Ubuntu, use shutter! You can use this application to take screenshot, add various things (arrows, texts, etc), add watermark, etc. SOT used Shutter to take screenshot when creating tutorial.

 

12. Have Fun!

Yup.. the final step after installing Ubuntu 12.10 is: have fun! There are so many new features, new applications, and also various ‘games’. You probably able to try Facebook update status from Gwibber, chatting from Empathy, editing here and there, etc. there’s always a new fun in every version of new Ubuntu. So, have fun!
