This time SOT want to discuss phenomena happened when you install application found from various sources, including from many applications reviewed by SOT. It’s often happened when you installed certain application, we got offer to install toolbar or other application which actually we don’t need it. In this case, IT fans in west have certain term about it, which is foistware.

What means by Foistware – is unwanted software, installed outside your acknowledgment. It used to be appeared in toolbar, add on browser, and searching bar. Often registry cleaner for some case.

FOIST term means:

  • Introducing or inserting something surreptitiously or unwarranted.
  • Force someone else to accept, especially by hiding or deceiving.

If you want to know the real form, it’s a dialog boxes appeared with tick sign (as if we agree to install application offered) and this kind of foistware commonly followed applications we wanted to install. It’s true that it’s a legal way according to law, but it’s really disturbing, isn’t it? Because we actually don’t want to install software offered (forcefully).

What’s the disanvantage for us? We just have a new program, do we?… That’s the point! New program entered our hard drive! If we ‘accidentally’ installed toolbar offered, it means we will erase our own toolbar facility. SOT is a Yahoo Toolbar user, and if it is accidentally got this foistware, SOT should hardly re-set SOT’s toolbar which previously already practical to run all SOT’s daily internet applications!…

Then if you install to many additional programs, your resource would be full, even your computer will get slower in the future!

Why people use Foistware? It is surely for financial profit, as you know, each time someone downloading certain application, web storage will get a bit profit. It is made some people do skinny act by attaching (unpopular) application into some other popular applications to raise his/her income.

There’s no other way to avoid this foistware except AWARE! Pay truly attention to what you’ve installed. Don’t click carelessly, because we can get the wrong program.
