If you’re one of people who use computer for working, I bet you have various files stored in your hard disk drive, am I right? I’m also sure many of you try to create new partition since the previous drive has been full. For you who wanted to add new partition or hard drive, Windows now offers attractive feature which probably not many people know. The feature makes possible for all its user to create Virtual Hardisk Drive (VHD).
Virtual Hardisk Drive is a virtual storage which uses physical hard disk, but it won’t disturb the other drive to run. It is very useful, if you don’t want to take a risk losing data by doing re-partition. In this article, SOT will give you tips about how to create virtual hard disk drive in Windows. Curious?
Okay, let’s do it directly. First step, open Windows Exploler and direct your mouse to computer. If you’re already there, right click and then select Manage.
After the Computer Management window is opened, click on Disk Management. Wait until all drives have been read. Then you can change into Action tab and select Create VHD menu.
Press on Browse button to store Virtual Hardisk Drive (vhd) file in your computer. The file is useful to return or re-display your drive if in case it is missing. Next, decide the capacity you wanted. Tick on one of the option, Dynamically expanding (drive capacity can change automatically) and Fixed size (capacity cannot be changed anymore).
There would be an empty room in Disk Management.
Now, create Virtual Disk by right-click and select Initialize Disk menu.
After Initialize Disk window is opened, change partition style option into MBR (Master Boot Record).
The next step is creating disk virtual volume. Right click on the empty space, then select New Simple Volume.
Follow the steps. Click on Next.
Refill the capacity you wanted to use. Maximum capacity shows 8 and the maximum 15357. Click on Next.
Now decide drive letter as your taste. Click on Next.
Tick on Format this volume option. Decide disk format you will use, whether using NTFS or FAT32. Don’t forget to tick on Perform a quick format option too. Click on Next.
If those steps already finished, press on Finish.
Now, Virtual Hard Disk Drive is already successfully made. It can be seen in Disk Management, there will be new drive, and also in Windows Explorer.
