Perception about Linux and Mac which is yelled free from virus and malware threat is denied by Kaspersky Lab. Both of them are not purely safe from attack, although its amount is not as much as other operating system (OS).
According to Kaspersky Lab research to September 2011 yesterday, there were more than 1.000 malware attack came to Mac OS and 3.351 attack to Unix based.
For attack to Unix based, the largest amount came to Linux with 2.825 number. Rest of them, OSX 137, Solaris 3, SunOS 122, Unix 213, and FreeBSD 51.
“It’s small number, but the attack is real,” said Gun Suk Ling, Director Corporate Sales Kaspersky Lab for Asia Pacific.
He suggested, attack experienced by Mac and Linux isn’t influenced much. However, the effect can influence other OS platform.
“One of the effect example is multiplatform virus spread. Mac and Linux are effective to spread virus to other OS when data transfer, the example, virus and malware settled in both OS can be brought,” he explained.
